Pittosporum

I am looking for an evergreen shrub for a border, possibly variegated.
I like the look of Pittosporum Garnetti but would I be able to keep it at a height of around 1.5 meters without causing issues.
Thanks.

Most of them can be pruned, but not all varieties are hardy everywhere, so you'd need to check that it's suitable for your location too if it's one of the less tough ones  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    It's fine to prune them.
I often trim my variegated pittosporum (about 15ft) throughout the summer.
I once gave it a very hard pruning leaving very few leaves, it did sulk for a season then grew happily away again

  • Sulk. Ha ha!

Our largest Pittosporum is a Garnetti.  We trim it every year. It’s never shown any signs of stress in even the hardest of Winters (but we are in the South East).  It’s leaves are larger than many of the other varieties.

I walk past one of these everyday and it gets butchered by the hired in gardener (some just don't have a clue), so that twice a year all its leaves are cut off (and I do mean all) leaving a horrible brown mess. I always think that it's finally been killed but it seems to spring back to life over the next few months and looks ok before its hacked again. The last time this was done was late autumn but it's come back quite well already.
So I wouldn't be that worried by a little sensible pruning when it needs it.
