'...The full camera guide runs to over 700 pages, which is a fat lot of good
when you are out and about and can't remember how to correct some
obscure setting.....'
I found with mine that I could set up my own menu options - so I added there all the options I thought may come in handy - but now can't remember why I put them there and my menu now contains virtually all of the options located on the main camera menus!
@steveTu the problem I had recently was that somehow exposure compensation had been changed. Presumably dumb luck with a couple of buttons or switches being touched accidentally at the same time. It took me ages to work out how to reset to the usual setting. With previous cameras I've carried the manual in the bag but the 700 pager is 2 volumes!
We do the same - the camera book is always in the camera case.
I was out a while back and the exposure metering setting was 'off centre' (I normally keep it set t the mid point) and for the life of me I couldn't remember how to change it back (and how it had been changed in the first place).
The best thing I ever did though, was to switch to back button auto focus. The camera defaulted to the standard half press on the shutter release. Now the shutter release does only that - releases the shutter, and a button on the back of the camera is used to auto focus. It took some getting used to ... but I much prefer it now.
