Evening all - it's been absolutely freezing here today. Woke up to pouring rain (much needed so thank you) which turned to sleet at about 10am. That passed through by lunchtime but it has been bitterly cold since then.
Popped to local stockist to get a new cordless pruner / chainsaw. It's a bit of a gamble as I still haven't had a refund for the faulty one. However, I bought the tool for winter jobs that I need to get on with as soon as the weather (and my enthusiasm) plays ball. No point waiting for a refund if it's then too late to tackle the jobs.
MIL has been seeking advice re energy companies as her fixed rate deal comes to an end at the end of March. Scottish Power have advised they will be wanting an extra £100 per month after that. What can I say? She is fortunate to be in a position to afford it - but it's double what she's paying now. How on earth will some people manage? Those on a prepayment meter will be even harder hit. I hope all my friends on this forum will be ok - I suspect some may struggle.
Some of you have made me both laugh and wince with your sewing tales. Good to hear I'm not the only clumsy one around.
Hope LB had a good lunch out🙂
BL - Are you back to Norfolk this weekend? Am I correct in saying you don't need to do any tests this time? That will save more than a few pennies won't it?
Ante - good to hear you're on the road to recovery - there has been a particularly nasty cold virus doing the rounds this winter. When will you start sowing your seeds?
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
T'bird, I hope that you will get refund soon and that new tool will serve you well. I already started with sow some seeds two weeks ago. My chillies, salat and spring onions are already sproted. This cold was rough and it last much longer than usual.
@Topbird, I fly to Norfolk tomorrow. I will have to do an antigen test, £15, it's waiting for me at the cottage. The number has to go on the Passenger Locator Form. That's about 5 pages long, has to be filled in on line and printed out. From the 11th Feb no more tests.
I'm sorry you've felt so rough @Ante30, but glad to hear you are getting better.
I didn't do raspberry pruning, it drizzled on and off, the house is cleaner instead. Clean sheets on the bed too.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Bloomin' 'eck BL - 5 pages! I really, really hope that by the time we're heading for Canada / Alaska (mid June) we might be done with all these shenanigans (Ante = regulations). We've had to factor them in (ie add extra days to the holiday) just in case, but I really hope that, by then, everyone with high vaccination rates will have gone down the Danish / UK route.
Yet another gamble. Maybe I should do the lottery this weekend to complete the hat trick...🤨

Good to see you @Ante30 sorry to hear you've felt so ill, gad you're starting to feel better. @Topbird hope you get a refund soon. Do hope your MIL finds a new supplier. Ours is fixed at the moment too till April. Not sure what's happening after that. @Busy-Lizzie Hope all goes well tomorrow.......5 pages OH heck! 😨 Safe journey, take care, bet you can't wait to arrive in Norfolk and see OH. @Songbird-1 How is little 23, hope he is feeling better. @Ladybird4 hope you had a lovely lunch and catch up.
Just popping in to say have a good journey @Busy-Lizzie.
Hope Ante and all who have been feeling poorly are feeling much better soon, and that Topbird and others with ‘equipment and fuel challenges’ etc get them resolved very soon.
Our fixed tariff comes to an end very soon 😱
night night all 🛌
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
LB it’s very much on Alfie’s terms as you say about Lily. If you call him he ignores you unless dreamies are involved. He has more pressing matters like sleeping but is often by my side and wanting attention. How embarrassing for your student. There will have been blushes.
Rubee and Hazel thank you for your advice re milk I’ll bear that in mind when I next shop. I didn’t go to sm I felt quite floppy and had a day resting.
Lily I do wear jumpers but it’s always good to have some cardigans. I have two and I wear them over dresses and tops, could do with some more but can be difficult to find.
Ante sorry to hear how Ill you’ve been so glad to hear you’re on the mend. Good luck with the seeds.
Top bird I hope you get what you need to complete the garden.
A very good morning one and all - especially early bird RosieBB.
Had a lovely day yesterday. Lunch was grand but there were only 9 of us as one lady is on a diet. She wants to get into her pre-covid clothes for her holiday to Lanzarote and didn't want to sit there watching us eat! Her husband was there - weird or what?
My pal from Crewe was staying over so we sat and nattered and then watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics which I had recorded. I think one of my favourite parts of the ceremony was seeing all those tiny people on skis, snowboards, and skates having fun. The little tottie with the dog was particularly cute. Sorry if that is a spoiler for people.
T'Bird, I think thats a sensible decision. You still have the hassle of sorting out the refund but at least you can crack on now and get your tasks completed.
Ante, I was so sorry to read how ill you have been. We did wonder and you were missed. I'm glad that you are feeling a bit better and hope that you continue to improve. Good to see you back.
Bon voyage Busy. Safe journey back to Norfolk.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Morning @bluebellsintherain and @Ladybird4 and all to follow. There's a beautiful red sky over the field this morning and a slight frost. Looks lovely.... but shepherd's warning 😕 Sorry you were awake so early Rosie hope you got back to sleep. Love the Snoopy pic LB. Good to see you, I wondered where you were last night. Glad you had a lovely day with friends. Strange one friend didn't turn up. My minds in overdrive 😂 did they have a row and she stayed at home, if she's on a diet there must have been something she could enjoy😉 I'll have a look at the link LB but I do like to 'see' the material etc. Usually only buy online from well known Shops 😉 but most of them no longer exist. 😥 Having the poppets for the day, mummy and daddy double booked for outings. My gain 😂🥰🥰 Have a lovely day everyone Safe journey @Busy-Lizzie
