Cigarette ash and plants 😖

My husband smokes (grrr he wont stop no matter what). He stands just outside the back door right by a rhododendron in a pot which is part of a bench so not easily moved (plus no space to move it to). I have provided him with a covered ashtray which he claims to use but he actually appears to just flick half of the ash into my plant pot 😡. So my question is - will this harm the plant? Maybe it will be beneficial?? I'm just thinking here about land being more fertile after fire!
