Just a thought but could it be leatherjackets attacking from underneath?
My newly laid lawn a few years ago was decimated.

Leatherjackets decimated my well established lawn last year, huge brown patches where the grass just turned brown and broke away from the ground. I was already unsure about wanting much of a lawn and that totally put me off.
    Tomorrow is another day

The track in the photo could well be a hog,  and the grass is also quite long in the photos, which makes the track more visible, but it could even be a rat, cat or rabbit.

I'd already mentioned crows etc digging for chafers/leatherjackets, but there is no connection between that track and that kind of activity.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Some information about leatherjackets and chafer grubs @sheenarollo.

They will certainly cause damage in the form of yellow, dying patches and foxes will dig for them. I speak from personal experience !
As @Fairygirl says, it could be a hedgehog snuffling around looking for worms, but to be honest it could be one of several creatures. The poo could be a clue. (Bit of unintentional poetry there).
  • Morning everyone....going to post photos: beautiful lawn put down 21 Sept 2021....1st trail through grass about 7/ 8 weeks later ..... photos today  it has also been suggested along with hedgehog it could be rat (s)
