Unhealthy rhododendron leaves

Hi.  Wonder whether anyone knows why the leaves of my rhododendron look so unhealthy.  It’s in a pot planted using the correct potting compost.  The buds look fine
Many thanks

Is it only in compost? That isn't enough to sustain any shrub long term. Has it ever had the soil refreshed?
They need good drainage, an appropriate soil mix [neutral to acidic] and plenty of water in dry spells if they're in pots - rainwater is best if you don't have good tap water.
An occasional feed through the season is beneficial as they're completely restricted.

They aren't great in pots long term, unless they have the right care, and an appropriate size of pot. Not something I've ever done because they just get stuck in the ground here and get left to get on with it. Our conditions suite them.
Most leaf damage isn't too severe and you just tolerate it, because the only method of sorting it usually is to remove them.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
