Not knowns

Dear All
So many times I find that I have added a comment to what is not "real".
How do I know how to detect the right and wrong ones?
I know this sounds naive but I really do not know how to see that some aren't what true.
Thank you all

    Hmm. Can you run that past me again, @bertrand-mabel? I am not picking up your point. Are you referring to responses you make on this forum or are you mulling over the veracity of posts across social media more generally?

    Do you mean that you respond to a post (let’s call it Post X)  and, by the time you’ve posted your response, you find that  X is no longer there because it’s been identified as a Spam post and Flagged five times?

    That's what I thought the OP meant @Dovefromabove.  I've noticed a rise in the number of spam posts recently that have tagged themselves to older posts, often months or years before, possibly to disguise their underhand motives.  This always makes me suspicious, especially when the relevance to the older post is questionable!  It's probably a good idea to check the date of the post first @bertrand-mabel and ask yourself if the poster could be trying to sell you something, not necessarily now but in the near future!

    True enough.

  • @Plantminded You are right that sometimes I don't check the date and realise later that the comment doesn't match up with the original. So will take more care.
    @Dovefromabove yes to your reply.
    But how do you know that it is spam and someone trying to sell something?
    @Fire love the quote
    I appreciate your replies. Thank you

    If there isn't an obvious link in the post @bertrand-mabel , it's often the style of writing, especially when it's an old thread dredged up, and also if it's a person's first post.

    Sometimes it can look ok, but they usually give themselves away at some point  :)

    The first thing that raises suspicion is if an old thread is trawled up by a new poster whose post is somewhat generic … rather as if it’s been cut and pasted from elsewhere … but more often than not it’s simply a combination of cynicism and experience. 😉
