Electrics fitted in greenhouse

After building my greenhouse back in 2009, I never got around to having power sockets installed. The last few years has seen the greenhouse acting as a store for firewood, so I built some log stores during lockdown and have now cleared out the wood. I can now get back to growing in my greenhouse. I've recently installed an outdoor socket, some 13 years late!!!! I intend to get a heated propagator and the socket will also be used for whenever I need power at the bottom of my garden.

It's nice to have the greenhouse back in use. It was a gift from my grandmother just before she died so it has sentimental value to me.

    Having an electricity supply is so useful @LeadFarmer. So glad l have mine, although these days it's only used to power heated propagators. Using a heater even to just keep it above freezing is too expensive.

    Yes I agree about the costs of heating greenhouse, I doubt I shall be wanting to heat mine due to cost. Ive just ordered a Vitopod heated propagator which I hope will come in useful.

    How I wish I had electric sockets in our greenhouse. Unfortunately, they are about tenth on the list of wishes. You will never look back , Valerie

    Decided to add another electric socket in the greenhouse, in a position that will be useful for when I need to plug my chainsaw in or other tools when down the bottom of the garden. Will also allow me to have the heated propagator in another location in the greenhouse.

    I had to build this log store so I could clear all the wood out of my greenhouse, but it's a good feeling finally having it back in use after all these years ..

    If you use heat to germinate seeds you are likely to need additional warmth when you grow them on. All the half hardies and tender plants require warmth if you start them off early. I find keeping the greenhouse frost free saves money on replacing tender plants and gives me great pleasure, too, because many continue to flower for much of the winter.

    Would some sort of waterproof sheeting down the front be a good idea?

    If you are referring to the log store then even in heavy rain over winter the wood hasn't got wet. Even so, getting wet isn't a problem as long as it has air to dry out again. It's the sap in the wood that has to be dried out.

    Photos of the second socket I added at the other side of the greenhouse. This is the original socket where I routed the cable out and through some 20mm flexi conduit to give it protection from knocks and sunlight..




    The new socket gives me more choice of where I position my heated propagator etc...
