I HAVE A Ilex aquifolium aurea marginata in my garden can you tell if I can prune in the winter and how much can I take off as it has grown quite tall and out of shape please.
Holly is very tough - I don't have your particular variety, but I prune mine any time of the year. Winter is probably ideal though. Cut it back as much as you like.
Birds do like to nest in holly for the protection it offers, so best get it done sooner rather than later. I already have blue tits building a nest in my tit box
