Good  Morning
I have notice new growth on some of my clematis. Do i cut these clematis to the ground in the spring? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Do you know the name?  Clematis have 3 main pruning groups:-

    1.  Cut back only to trim to size and keep in bounds after flowering finishes in spring.
    2.  A light trim and some dead heading after the first flush of flowers in May/June
    3.  Cut back hard in spring as they flower on new growth produced from spring onwards.

They all appreciate a good feed in spring and it helps to remove obvious dead stems to keep them looking their best.

Sometimes, in the case of group 1s such as montanas and armandiis a bit of renovation pruning is needed and then you can cut back quite hard after flowering finishes.

It looks like a very young/immature specimen, so it would probably benefit from cutting back to promote more stems which can then be trained horizontally, especially if it's a Group 2 or 3, or a montana.  :)

To make life simpler, Group 2s can be treated as group 3s and cut back to a low pair of buds in spring whilst young or all the way when older and well established with a good root system that will produce new shoots.

To check which group you have, assuming you knw its name, have a look on this website - https://clematisontheweb.org/new-clemlistsearch.cfm
