  • What lovely photos- yes it’s definitely Sonata mix that I’ve had in the past, Thankyou BenCotto. And thank you Fire for sending photo of Sonata Carmine- it’s exactly what I want.  Will get on Chiltern seeds site to order- Thankyou again for that link AnniD.

When I grew Rubenza they got to about 5ft
Have you had a look at Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy as a possible alternative?

For shorter cosmos (not six footers) it's best to plant in very poor soil (as it grows natively). If you plant in rich soil, manured or similar, it will grow bigger and is likely to flower later. I personally like cosmos trees for late autumn flowering.

Ah - thanks for that @Fire - my seed raised cosmos (I had Rubenza and Double Click something or other) flowered later and taller than expected and I now know it was because they went into my new rose bed which had all manner of goodness in it!
