What veg I should grow?

  • Your comments are really wonderful. I take the most pleasure growing foods that do not need to be cooked. Imagining a survival scenario, with limited food and energy. That might be quirky.

I sometimes grow mange tout rather than peas or beans [I hate the latter ] and they're very easy, but the most important thing is to grow what you like eating. No point going to all the effort and expense for something you don't like. We all like to experiment now and again, but initially, go for veg you enjoy   :)

I also agree with @REMF33- tomatoes are obvious ones. Depends on where you live as to whether they can go outside or not though.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Most veg can be eaten raw so don’t let that hold you back. Spinach leaves along with chard make wonderful salads.
And what about nasturtiums … I eat the flowers and the leaves direct from the plant as well as combining them with other foods to make salads and sandwiches.

  • You should Grow broccoli in this season .
  • Broccoli takes a long time to reach maturity, so needs to be planted in summer to be ready for picking now. Not worth it in space terms for most people.
Cavolo nero is great though, you can pick it for ages. Kohl rabi is quick and a bit different, if you like it :)
