Pruning apple tree

Hi everyone. 

Can you tell me where I should be cutting to prune my apple tree please? It's been in the garden for 3 years now and I've never pruned it but obviously it needs doing. Thank you

    I think it's James grieves. I don't mind really it was just somewhere for the birds to nest in and somewhere to put bird houses as there were no trees in the garden before. I didn't really think about it at the time. I don't mind about picking the fruit, I'd just like it to be a bit bushier and thicker for birds to hide in.

    Thank you, I had no idea it could suffer from canker. I'll leave the bird boxes away  :) I plan on growing some hedging in another part of the garden so hopefully i can help the birds and bees with those plants.
