Strange climber seen on walk.

Any idea what this thick woody climber is? It seems to me to be non native, seen on a woodland walk in Bedfordshire by a puzzled friend, who states that it climbed high into the upper reaches of the tree. My wild guess is that it is an exotic escapee from an estate garden

    Looks very wisteria like.

It might well be wisteria, we saw a huge one in Exbury Gardens once, climbing up one of their large trees.

There's a clematis weed. Travellers joy or old man's beard - something like that.

  • Good one pansyface. Thanks for suggestions everyone. Wisteria/clematis are certainly likely contenders, but looking at them online I don’t see the regular bamboo-like ridges that we have here.
