Lillies

I have just been given lillies in a pot which are in bloom. Can they be put outside now, or should I wait until the flowers have died off?

They can be put outside, assuming they're hardy ones and not something like the turk's cap ones -martagon, which can be tender. Then leave them to die back naturally, as that builds the bulbs up for future years.
Just keep them somewhere they won't get drowned by rain - against a house wall or similar. In very wet areas, they can rot because they're permanently sitting in wet soil. It can be slightly easier when they're in the ground [assuming it's well drained] because excess moisture can be dispersed, and taken up by other planting. In pots, they're 'trapped', if that makes sense, so they need a really well drained, gritty mix in those.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
