Well this idea was short-lived...quote came through from a local landscaper to build up a flat paved base in this area...£2300 :(

That's a ridiculous quote - they plainly don't want the work.
I always try and get at least 3 before deciding. Try some others

  • Perhaps worth considering a single block wall in a bit of a trench in the elevated bits and on the surface for elsewhere. Will be a lot less ground work. Also gets the waves up a bit higher. I had a two block wall on footing done for a 10*16 greenhouse for less than half your quote and it was a decent slope with poor access.

Not something I can be bothered trying to attempt myself.

Not sure if the slope is having a bigger impact on the work than the photos suggest? The quote text is-

The existing area will be dug out down to the hard. Around three sides of the area a foundation will be poured. A 6" grey 140 block will be laid on a wet bed of 5:1 using building sand/cement. The joints will be smoothed off leaving a clean face on the blocks.
Once the retaining wall has set subbase will be brought in and levelled/compacted using a vibrating plate. A ratio of 5:1 will be mixed and with the slabs laid down and tampered into position. The slabs will sit on top of the block wall.

Never had a quote for any landscaping before.

I'm tempted to just go with a cheap plastic effort for now if it'll allow me to start off my dahlias early, something like this- https://www.christowhome.co.uk/walk-in-greenhouse-extra-large.html

Will look to get a couple of other quotes regardless to see how they might vary.

I'd definitely get a couple more quotes @Dirty Harry (no pandemic pricing preferably!).  If you're planning on buying your greenhouse locally, see if the supplier can offer any suggestions - often they know good local tradespeople and will know typical costs.
