New Amaryllis bulb

This has probably been answered many times over, but…..  I planted a new amaryllis bulb in late November, keeping it almost dry till growth started, then watering sparingly. However, the only growth I have is 6 leaves and no sign of a bud.  I’ve never had this issue with Amaryllis before…is it just a dud bulb?

    Sometimes they grow the leaves first. I’ve got some I’ve kept from earlier years and they grow their leaves first and then the flower spike appears.

    Same bulb, new issue!  You were correct, Dove From Above:  I was patient and was rewarded with a gorgeous pink and white flowered amaryllis in 2021.  I let the leaves die back, cut them off per several YouTube instructions and let the plant go dormant in the garage.  I took it inside rather late (mid-Nov, 2022) and after 3 weeks thought I had killed it…but the bit of leaf showing in the shaft turned green, so - per your advice - I again remained patient.  

    It’s now Jan 19/23 and, as you can see in the photo, I have a 20” stem plus flower bulb…and one leaf from what I assume is a bulblet….there are no other leaves!  Is this normal?  I’ve never tried to over-winter an amaryllis before…..

    All looks fine to me. The leaves will follow the flower.  😊 As you say the single leaf shows that there’s an offset growing from the main bulb. When they’re dormant again you can split them and grow the new bulb on separately if you like, but it’ll be a few years before it’s big enough to flower.
