I am new to growing this plant. I have seen that the seed pods are very attractive but
will it benifit from being deadheaded ?  in other words will I get a second flush of flower ?

Where in the world do you live?
This forum is based in UK .
Hedychium gardnerianum .....common name  Kahili ginger, Kahila garland-lily or ginger lily, is classed as tropical and would only survive here  in very mild areas./or in a green house.
So it may be hard to advice you whether to let it go to seed or to be deadheaded in the hope of a 2nd flush of flowers.

  • I live in Mid Cornwall. These plants thrive well down here in the open garden but they are herbaceous.

Never managed to get them to flower here, although they did over winter in a cold g/h.
How can you lie there and think of England

Hi @piratesupporter,  ginger lilies only flower once and then send up an entirely new shoot with a new flower stalk when the older flower dies.  So it's best to deadhead to neaten the plant and to spur on new flower stalks.  That's a pretty impressive specimen @Silver surfer!

I have them in a large pot, they overwinter in a greenhouse, and in Spring I start to feed and water well. They will flower in a sunny summer. I have grown them from seed to flower in two years.
