Clematis Montana not looking too good

We have a Clematis Montana at least 7 years old. We cut it back quite hard earlier this year as it had spread into a nearby holly tree. It continued to grow quite vigorously during the summer months and I trained the shoots along a trellis on a fence.
A couple of weeks ago it suddenly started to look almost as if it was short of water which is unlikely to be the case given the rainfall we have had.

Hello Michael, welcome to the forum.
It looks to me exactly the same as mine, they always look sorry for themselves at this time of year. I don't think it's anything for you to worry about  :)

    I'd agree too.
Is there a reason you think it looks bad? If you're in a mild part of the country, and you've never pruned it before, it may have looked greener in the past, but in most areas they're bare at this time of year.
The flowers appear before the foliage on montanas  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
