Guava

I have a very young, 3 year old Guava plant (psidium guavja). It's doing really well; growing  even in the winter months. It's in pot and I intend to keep it that way.

I'd be grateful for advice from expert gardeners on best type of fertiliser to use. Also, when and how often to feed.

  • Thank you for taking the time today to reply. Guava is probably my favourite fruit and so it's rather shocking to hear that no one in your brother's house will eat them!

I have read that, given the right care, common Guava is quite easy to grow in the UK.

    I will perservere.
  • I wanted to follow this thread as I am growing guava in a pot. I live in a tropical country. I didn't get a good bloom and not even seen a single fruit. but the leaves are fairly green and bushy. I used 50% Top Soil and 50% Organic compost as a potting mix. I also used complete fertilizer with 16-16-16+TE description on a weekly basis with 10ml per liter of water drenching mixture. I also put calcium nitrate and magnesium sulfate as added macronutrients with 5ml per liter of water as a foliar spray. but its been 3 years and not a single bloom had shown. I also attempted pruning that I left it with just a foot tall. It just grow leaves again but no bloom. Other Plants like the Persian Mulberry with the same pot size (or smaller) and potting mix, the same fertilizer... they bear fruits. lots of it. I didn't see any insects or mites or even aphids. I got interested with this post/topic just to Maybe learn some shed of knowledge from experts. ;)
I really don't have a Good backyard. But used my balcony as container Gardening place. No stopping from my passion.
