What sort of soil do you have in your garden? Sandy? Clay? Wet and claggy or dry and dusty?

I grew a bunch of Catalpas from seed when I lived in London. I left one behind in the garden there. It grew to the height of the house with no help from me.

I brought two to Derbyshire here and put them in the garden, again with no help. They have barely grown three feet in twelve years.

Same type of soil, different climate.
Hi this tree will be potted for a long time. I live in city and I’ll buy a land next year so this little tree will stay in a pot. Can I mix clay with sand and a potting mix ? Sorry for my English.

Are you in the UK?  If so a bag of
John Innes No 3 loam-based potting mix will be fine for your little tree.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

According to this article they seem to be very tolerant of most conditions.
