    Hi
I was advised by the garden centre to put down a weed barrier and put some bark on top but now soil ,(mud) has gone furry mouldy under the sheet. What can I do now?  After all the rain the soil is  saturated

    I wouldn't do anything. It's perfectly normal  :)

There are always moulds and fungi in the soil. They help break down other matter. I wouldn't have put a barrier down though. The bark would then have worked into the soil and benefited it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Oh dear, bad luck. Did you find out why it doesn't drain? I don't understand why the gc advised a weed barrier and muck would have been better than bark, but I still think you need to know what the problem is.

I hate that weed barrier stuff.  I don't think they gave you good advice.
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

It certainly seems odd that they'd suggest it. Did you make it clear what the problem is? Perhaps they thought you just wanted to disguise it temporarily.  :)

Yes, thanks.  I think they may have. It's just the heavy rain that dies it.  It's been non stop of late.  So, shall I just leave as is or remove the cover and add more bark directly into the soil.
