Grass pollen allergy

Hi all,

My son has just been diagnosed with a strong grass pollen allergy, Will anything I do in the garden help?

I take it that letting grass grow long will be triggering him.

On the other hand how much difference does my garden make with all the neighbours and grass on the street?

Probably very little, except if he is out rolling in the grass.  Just keep your lawn grass from flowering, as a direct face full would be problematic.. and don't grow ornamental grasses.  Keep him inside on windy days?

They say avoid activities like mowing grass, but surely mowing the grass stops it from developing pollen in the first place?
  • I knew a child with a grass allergy ... she was allergic to the grass sap as well as the pollen ... her eyes and lips would swell and she felt awful ... she couldn't be anwhere near newly mown grass and her dad had to change his clothes before going indoors after cutting their large lawn ... playing on cut grass was also a No-no. .... Thankfully it became much milder as she grew older.
