Decimation of lawn ...cont

Whilst the decimation of my lawn continues and I am still no closer to finding the culprit I just wondered if or when it will ever end? Is it a winter thing? is it coincidence that I reseeded that area last year? All I know is that every day I go out into the garden the lawn is stripped back more and more. I can honestly say I have felt like giving up after all the years of hard work I have put into it. I am exhausted and have no clue what to do next.   :s

    That's awful. Did you post a picture previously? It does sound like badgers, in which case you need to look at access. There is nothing you can do to the lawn that will deter them. Just a thought - do you use blood fish and bone in your garden? Foxes can be very destructive trying to get at that but I wouldn't expect that to be an issue at this time of year.
  • If not badgers or foxes, it could be those crows you mentioned previously.  Crows can make a real mess if they discover leatherjacket or chafer grubs etc. living in your lawn.  Holes and furrows several inches deep wouldn't be unusual.

    Thank you everyone for your replies. @pansyface it definitely resembles the damage in the link about badgers that I was sent but I can not figure out where they are coming in as I haven't seen any gaps in fencing and I am not aware that they climb. I have never used bird seed because I had a rat issue years ago.
    @Posy no I haven't used bf and b.
    @BobTheGardener although crows are enjoying it immensely I do not believe they could cause such destruction, the actual top layer gets pushed back to reveal the earth as though someone has used a turf cutter!
    @a1154 I think might have to get a night camera and then go from there.
    Meanwhile, I will try and post some photos of my mess of a lawn.  :'(

    How about trying some fine netting over the area that's being churned up Meomye? Not laid on the ground but on a frame of some sort so that if it is the crows they can't get at it. I remember the crows making a heck of a mess of our front lawn once when they were after grubs. Ended up like a ploughed field.

    You may have underestimated the gap needed by badgers to get into your garden. They are chunky animals and it is easy to think, "It couldn't get through THAT little gap." but the blighters can. They are determined

    Although I am still unable to identify the lawn wreckers, I have discovered why they are visiting, CHAFER GRUBS! I have created a new post asking for help, if anyone can offer advice on how to get rid of them I would be most appreciative. Thank you.
