I was in B&Q today and noticed these lovely looking house plants.
I so want to go back tomorrow and buy one, but thought i should ask here if they are too much like hard work?

They are not hard work at all, my mum used to grow lots of them,  there would be little leaf cuttings around ready to pot on.
I've never grown them, I’m not good with houseplants,  but if you like them then buy them, you’ll look after then just fine.

    Thanks, Lyn.
They look so unusual that i was worried they might be delicate.
I'll pop one in the trolley next time i'm in B&Q.  :)

  • I don't have B. maculata, but I have 3 other decorative leaf types bought as small cuttings (from Dibleys) and they have been easy to care for and grown on well, though I hadn't grown them before.. They don't like too much sun, or too much water. If they do get a bit too dry, as mine have from time to time, they will maybe drop a leaf or two, but always come back. Mine are in my south-facing back porch, out of direct sun, but temps can fluctuate widely on sunny days and I don't always remember to check water levels. I have Little Brother Montgomery, Pink Gin and the last one is called Merry Christmas!

That 'Merry Christmas' isn't shy and retiring!  :D
