Too late to plant?

  • Definitely not late to plant anemones. I have white and deep purple ones.
You mentioned they will be in pots , then it definitely doesn’t matter :) just don’t let them freeze under -5 C or so. Put them somewhere where they can be around zero maybe (shed or garage) during coldest spells.

I fortunately live in zone 8, so can just keep them be in the ground year around. BUT! I still actually prefer to pre-sprout all new corm indoors first.

Soak them in room temperature water for 10-15 min and put them in compost to pre-sprout in complete darkness, preferably somewhere cool. They sprout better this way and without molding or rotting. Big pots may be harder to keep evenly moist for first sprouting. I just toss them in a drawer in our garage)) but a small box will do fine. Occasionally check in on compost being damp (but not soggy) and don’t expect anything first month. Only after 4 weeks they start to move.
Will be planting some myself that I just got from a friend this month:)
I like to put them in small leftover pots just so I can dump it and check in on roots before situating them where they will actually grow.
Here are the ones I planted mid November (they are “Mistral Grape”, I think we’re on day24 of sprouting right now)

buds are not even showing yet, but roots are getting less tender and no longer look as fragile. Sort of get that leathery feeling.

    Hope this helps!
    Anemones are so gorgeous <3
