Grass Variety & Trimming

Anyone know what variety of grass this is? Can the long straggly bits be trimmed off?

Thanks.

Looks like Carex comans Bronze form. I find you can just gently pull the longer shoots out.

In Spring, use your hand like a comb and the dead leaves will easily come away.  If you want it to look tidier, just scoop all the leaves up into a vertical position and trim the top couple of inches off with a sharp pair of secateurs.  When you release the leaves you will have a tidier dome shape which will then soften and look more natural as the plant grows.  Carex looks like a grass but it is actually a sedge.  It is evergreen (or bronze in this case!) and, unlike most deciduous grasses, shouldn't be trimmed to the ground.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
