Christmas tree advice

We recently acquired a Christmas Tree from the local co-op who were giving them away due to poor condition. I think it's a Nordic Spruce.

I cut off the original plastic pot and have planted it in an 80l pot, with John Innes No 2 compost and used some fertiliser pellets.

It's had a good watering and lots of rain over the last 2 days.

As you can see the branches are brown and most of the needles have fallen off.

I was wondering how to tell if it's likely to survive outdoors, or if it will keep shedding and die eventually?

Thanks
PS Sorry about the pictures being the wrong way round.

It's got some healthy needles andyslack and it cost nowt so nothing to lose but a feather in your cap if you rear it. Norway spruce have softer needles, sitka spruce are prickly and unpleasant if you brush your hand or arm across the needles.
SW SCOTLAND but born in Derbyshire
  • Thanks Uff. The needles are quite prickly (when picking up an handful some stick in my skin). I'd not heard of sitka spruce before.
