Christmas tree advice

We recently acquired a Christmas Tree from the local co-op who were giving them away due to poor condition. I think it's a Nordic Spruce.
I cut off the original plastic pot and have planted it in an 80l pot, with John Innes No 2 compost and used some fertiliser pellets.
It's had a good watering and lots of rain over the last 2 days.
As you can see the branches are brown and most of the needles have fallen off.
I was wondering how to tell if it's likely to survive outdoors, or if it will keep shedding and die eventually?
