Any idea what this twiggy thing is?

I was weeding around a shrub the other day & found this growing in near by. The top is reddish while the bottom is pale green! Looks like a tree sapling but I’m not sure any ideas would be welcome !

    I agree … Salix … probably Salix caprea. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Ahhh I did wonder there’s willow growing across the road so probably seeded itself from over there , thank you for the replies !!
