Dove, very kindly thinks of me, when orchids are mentioned. Fire, they are perfectly happy in North facing aspect, they don't like full sun. A tip for anyone, the ones with the big white flowers, flower the longest. I only cut off a brown "woody" stem, otherwise just below one of the little nodes. Another tip, you can pop them away in a room without heat, for 6 weeks, they hibernate and then spring into life again.Pete, easy to keep, hah,I've got about 30, we have laminate flooring, so I have to Carry each one into the kitchen to spray and or water. You haven't encountered any pests yet. My friend reckons she's had hers in a south facing window for 10 years, doing really well,(I have seen the plants, never seen a flower) am saying nothing!!Fire for multiple stems,go for the bamboo orchids

That's one reason I'll try and resist the urge to get more! I saw a creamy yellow one (much taller then my little pink one) and bought that. A week later they had one with deep plum-red flowers that was too gorgeous not to buy... I future I'll keep my eyes closed in the houseplant section!
I went to a house many years ago owned by a Sri-Lankan couple. They had a magnificent property and the lounge was about 50ft square. There were so many orchids! They were his wife's passion and she had over 200! mostly in the lounge Goodness knows how she managed to look after them all
