Overwintering potted plants in heated house

I have various plants that I was hoping to get through the winter but I’m not sure how to do it or if it’ll work! I have v little money so it’ll really help if it works. .
The only place I have is in the house which is heated to 17deg max.
There are various places I can use, top of cupboard in back room (not so much light), temporary ‘table top’ with more light, cellar, bathroom…in the bath!
Unsure whether to cut them back, or what’re them, more or less light etc.
I have….
giant begonia
coreopsis
helichrysum
various dahlias
I have taken cuttings from coreopsis & helichrysum

Most are perennial, don't need winter light. This year I'm going to overwinter the dahlias in a cardboard box with straw in the dark,(as shown in my weekly garden mag) I would go for the cellar.
  • I’d follow @Nanny Beach ‘s directions … and keep them in the middle of the cellar. It should  be frostfree there.

I agree and I'd cut them back first as the upper growth may rot and cause problems.

I use hanging baskets made of wide mesh to overwinter dahlias and begonias. Cut them back to leave just a few inches of stem, put them upside down into the basket with the stems poking through the mesh so that remaining fluid drips onto the floor and then put multi purpose compost around the tubers to stop them drying out and hang them in the shed overwinter

  • Thankyou all! Do you stop watering them ? I’m assuming you do…..but when do you restart? 3 of the dahlias & the begonia look fine still…..do I chop them back now? Wait til they die back! Stop watering?
