Shady climbers - protect from damp or not?
Hey everyone, we have a single story extension at the back which is north facing and completely sheltered. I am thinking about planting shade loving clematis in the spring to grow around it but am reading conflicting reports about damp. Does anyone have experience in this situation, will the clematis cause the brickwork to become/stay damp or protect it from damp?
I was planning on using planters rather than planting in ground.

Only some are suitable for that. Generally speaking, the bigger flowered, larger ones aren't, and montanas certainly aren't, unless it's a purpose built container and is therefore big enough for the root system, which will then help to keep the plant happy.
