Sedum browning

Hi all, I've got a sedum in the garden that's browning and looking a bit poor. Saw some new growth at the base of the plant though. Wondering what's the best way to look after it in the winter please? Thought they are quite hardy? Thanks!

  • Yes, most of the ones commonly found in UK gardens are hardy ... they do die down over the winter tho' ... I'd pop a label there to remind you where it is so you don't dig it up accidentally and wait for it to reappear in the spring.  :)

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

It looks absolutely normal to me. When the plant gets more established and bigger the flower heads often stay on for a good part of winter and can look very attractive, but yours is just getting started.

Looks normal to me too. The new growth is already coming through at the base, and you can take that dead stem off if you want. It's not providing anything for the plant.  :)

It'll be bigger and heartier next year, and the stems will then look a bit better over autumn/winter if you want to leave them. I usually take them off mine as they look pretty dire by this time of year here.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you all! Indeed the one @Fire gave to me still has the flower heads staying on, adding very nice colour to this season
