hi guys. I got a cutting of this in spring from a neighbour, who has since moved out. she did tell me what it was, but I've clean forgot!

    I can't see the flowers very well, but it looks like an Abelia x grandiflora

    thanks guys. I had a little look online about pruning - and it says either late winter or early spring. what's the best time? I'm in SW UK and the garden is walled all around, so hard frosts not really an issue

    I prune ours during Summer only, early or late. It’s best to avoid pruning evergreen plants during Winter.  The ideal time to prune is immediately after flowering.

    Your Abelia x grandiflora is not huge.
    It looks lovely. Still just a young shrub.
    Not at all sure why you want to prune it.???

    thanks. I wasn't sure whether pruning it would encourage more bushier growth. also, there are a few stems veering over in the direction of the Hydrangea (this is the direction the sun comes in) - so I'm wondering whether I can cut those back. I'd like it to fill the other side of the border, ideally!
