Repotting

Hi just after some advice on when to repot. I have a large baobab in a large pot but its got the wrong type of compost. It's been in there for a few years also. I've ordered cactus/succulent compost but can I start repotting now or wait till it starts growing again in may? It's starting to drop its leaves before going dormant. I've always had the understanding the best time to repot is when plants go dormant but maybe I'm wrong?

Repot the baobab bonsai every two years in the spring. Remove it from its pot and trim the roots back by one-third to two-thirds of their length, completely removing any that are damaged or dead. Place it in a container that is twice the size of the root ball and fill the pot with a mixture of 70 percent compost and 30 percent salt-free sand. Water well to minimize shock and be sure to keep it warm.

It makes sense to me to re-pot in the spring.
Over winter the plant is resting, as growth begins in the Spring it'll have some nice fresh compost to give it a good start for the season ahead.
I recall some ancient myth that it was a tree that upset some god, so for revenge the god pulled it up and replanted it upside down. Hence it's unusual appearance
