App for gardening diary

I am looking for a gardening app. I always keep labels so I know all the plants in my garden.
Different plants need different care and attention at different times in the year
is there a program that has a database of plants that based on the plants I have will give me list of jobs for the weekend

The trouble is that if you live in Glasgow, say, the work you do will be entirely different from people in Dorset. Although there can be general advice, your personal timetable will depend on climate, weather at the time and soil type so week by week instructions are pretty useless. As you gain experience you will be able to consider your own conditions and treat your plants appropriately, adjusting general care instructions to your needs. It can be useful to keep your own record and what was successful or not, to help you remember what you did at any particular time.

If you're an RHS member then their website has this exact functionality. Login, add plants to 'My Plants' and it automatically populates 'My Calendar'.  The tasks are listed by month and you can tick them off to keep track.
Example task this month is to take hardwood cuttings from my Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace'.
  • Well I’ve just put my plants on a spreadsheet with details for each like feeding, watering, expected size, expected flowing time, soil type, pruning requirements etc.
I have also photographed all the tags too as I know they seem to go missing after time.
it may seem a bit strange perhaps but I’ll end up with something I can print off for easy reference ..... a bit like an app for old farts ;)

  • Well seeing as I’m a member I’ve made use of the rhs app as well .. so I will see how it goes !

I use a spreadsheet but rather han detail all the care, I link the plant to a website that has those details. I do have a column if something needs attention that catches me out....but probably when I know that I won't forget as I have killed something!

I also have the location in my garden (my beds are named) and I can sort by bed and then name.

I do love a good spreasheet!

You have given me a good idea - I could link each plant to its photo in my garden as opposed to a website......
