Abyssinian banana problem

I have an Abyssinian banana Ensete ventricosum which stands about 6 feet tall, planted in a large container and over wintering in a heated workshop which is held at 10 degrees minimum. For some reason it has started falling over. It is bending at the soil surface. Some leaves have kinked over while others are upright and a new leaf is opening. I have supported the plant back to vertical but it is still floppy if I remove the support. The moisture gauge is in the mid green. Any ideas anyone? Not sure what to do next.

is it soft / mushy where it's bending? Can you add a photo?

  • At soil level the fingers going down are hard but further in it feels soft and slimy.

I'd remove most of the leaves to reduce weight and just leave the youngest one.
Might do nothing, but it'll certainly do no harm

  • I might give it a couple of weeks and then try that. It was fine until it came indoors. Other ensete are doing fine in there.
