Problems

Japanese Anemone should have a warning when its sold. I've tried to get rid of it for months, others have been trying for years, it's a nightmare!! Another plant is Bears Breaches, I had to dig a hole about 4ft deep to finally remove it

I'm sometimes horrified by the ground cover plants sold to the unwary. The clue is in the name😒

It depends on the conditions and the soil. I planted some JA about 25 years ago - perhaps six plants. I now have eight or nine. They just don't spread here and need a bit of cosseting to flower well.
  • Are you folks talking about the bulbs anemone Blanda (described as “ground cover” ) or the much higher plants sold in pots ? I was planning on planting the higher variety outside my front hedge next to the road in spring ... will that become a problem ?

Japanese anemones are the taller ones. I have the white one, Honorine Jobert, and while she does spread and wander a bit, I wouldn't call it invasive. I think the pink ones are supposed to be more enthusiastic, and they're probably more vigorous in richer, moister soil than mine.

Japanese anemones are no trouble here. Heavy dry clay puts manners on them. Anemone Blanda corms  (or whatever )are eaten by mice or squirrels so I've given up providing an expensive treat for them.

  • Stoner whereabouts is your garden ?
  • Anemone Blanda is fine it's the Japanese Anemone the taller plant is a problem. I have one in a tub also and you can't see the tub anymore and it's spreading thru gaps in the concrete all over the drive 😖

I've had the pink one for about 12 years on a raised bank, 1 metre up from the drive and it's now growing through the tarmac.
