    Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

    I have in the past grown runner beans without any supports, just pinching out the tips to keep them bushy.  Very successful, but the beans got dirty and weren't straight.  Some low support would be a compromise.

    PS.  Just a thought.  It might be an idea to set up a low fraework and train them horizontally.
