Good heavens, we're going back in time. Anybody else remember the solid small round tins of pink toothpaste (Colgate?) in the 1950's?
Still very popular in  India and very good at cleaning silver

  • Turning off your vehicle engine when stationary ?  Easy to do but both transport companies and private users seem to be incapable of using the switch.

The Victorians used to have ceramic pots of toothpaste. http://www.whatthevictoriansthrewaway.com/project_tag/toothpaste/
Toothpaste tubes are one of the most annoying plastics to get rid of. You can't buy them in bulk size, there's been no real plastic-free alternative for years and there has been no drive to get rid of them. Deodorant is the other annoying one but at least now I work from home I can stop using it and just wash more often.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Lizzie,"You'll wonder where the yellow went when you clean you teeth with pepsodent",we used eucrol. Not sure of the spelling and shampoo, was a sheet, water Lilly, you put your fingers through holes, wet your hair, then rubbed on the paper impregnated with the shampoo. I love the way the solid shampoo bar makes my hair look and feel, but after a couple of weeks I get a sort of solid white "film" on my scalp and have to use a certain well known antifungal (that's because that's the one my old man uses) you can get natural deodorant stick in cardboard,it's not cheap about £12
Not stopping my men's antiperspirant, I sweat and smell!
  • I bought two food storage/cooking pouch type items from lakeland yesterday called Stashers.
I'm going to use them to take my cobs to work each day instead of wrapping them in clingfilm, which ends up in the bin.
£10 each which is steep. But if I can get a few years out of them then I'll be happy.
Anyone heard of them or use them at all?

You're right @Woodgreen, it was Gibbs, not Colgate. You had to wet your toothbrush then rub it over the paste to soften it. Everybody used the same tin which may not have been that hygienic  but we weren't too fussy about such things in those days.

@Lizzie27 It didn't seem to do us any harm sharing things, did it?

We tried the toothpaste tablets but didn't really like the sensation of having to chew before introducing the (bamboo) toothbrush.  We do the next best thing and buy toothpaste that's made locally.  And we have Who Gives A Crap loo paper, bought in bulk.  I can't wean my husband off his deodorant but I've been using a crystal deodorant for quite a few years now and swear by it.  Like this: https://naturalspasupplies.co.uk/shop/deodorant-shaving-styptic-of-volcanic-potassium-alum/?attribute_type-and-minimum-weight-at-12-00-per-100g=2+Blocks+108g+total+£13.00&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI36eH0a2W9AIVlpftCh0zMAZUEAQYBSABEgIEWvD_BwE
It lasts for ages and it really does work. (No, I don't have shares in the company!).
