How much soil do I need please?

Hi

I've got 2 new planters, and each has dimensions of 121 cm long, 51 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. Using an online calculator, it said I need 119 litres per planter. Another calculator said I needed 25kg per planter. A third one said 130 litres per planter

I'm pretty confused.........

  • To be exact, it is 129.591 litres. :)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Volume is the measurement you need ... the weight will depend on what you're going to fill it with ... MPV is light and fluffy ... good JI loam-based No 2 or 3 are heavy ... depending on what you're going to grow there, you may well need a mix of JI No 3, farmyard manure and grit ...

20 cm deep is pretty shallow. Do they have a base or are open to the soil?

Sorry, my fault ... a typo MPC = Multi-purpose Compost ... fine for containers of summer bedding or short term veg pots etc ... but longer term planting needs something much more substantial.
