What's eating the sprouts?!

My sprouts were growing well under debris netting. I realised the plants were getting too big for the net frame, and the tops were all curled up. After a closer look I found all these pests, not sure what they are? It looks like the plants have had it, any ideas how to avoid this next year? Thanks

    Just a bit of whitefly or aphids (can't see well enough to say which).... happens to most overwintering brassicas .... swoosh them off with a jet from the hosepipe ... shouldn't really have much effect on the plants if they're ok otherwise.  

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
