If the branches have no bark on them they are dead and whatever has caused it will probably have spread to the whole tree ... they need to come down. If not they'll be dangerous in the wind.

Thanks everyone - I guess after all your advice we need to chop these down so my hubby will be getting into action I guess ( he’s chopped the tops off regularly so he’s quite capable even though he’s 70 ) - Bob the Gardner from Leicestershire- same name as my Bob and he’s from Leicestershire too !! Thanks again - I personally will be sad to see them go as we’ve been here 26years and always had them protecting us ! Guess he will start with the worst one and work along slowly!
Please tell him to be extremely careful if he insists on doing this himself. Tree surgery can be very dangerous. And yours are not small trees, either. I would highly and very seriously recommend hiring a tree surgeon to do it rather than your husband: they will be fully trained and insured. It's much better to spend a bit of money than to potentially suffer a preventable injury.
@Pat E ‘s husband is part of the volunteer fire crew who go out and clear trees etc to create firebreaks in the Outback near the Snowy Mountains in NSW. They have all the gear gif dealing with big trees. They were out clearing firebreaks in the awful fires the other year.
