Fleece disintegrated

I bought a roll of fleece last winter and didn't use it all. It lived in my greenhouse and when I tried to use it, it sort of all fell apart. Was it the heat in the summer or had it been nibbled by something (nothing else has been nibbled)

I've got some that I've had for years. It's stored in the shed when I'm not using it, and has been washed several times when it gets grubby. I don't think mine would degrade from light/heat but it's very old. Maybe more modern versions degrade more easily.

It seems odd. I've re-used my whte fleece for eight years and it's still going strong. Doesn't tear easily.

Was it marketed for outdoor use?  I once used an old plastic shower curtain outdoors, as an upcycle, and within a few months it was cracking and disinterested.  I assume it was UV rays, as it was sheltered and flat on the ground (so not flapping about).  I've had the same with clear plastic totes I use as cold frames in the spring.. within a few years they are brittle and cracked, only spending a few weeks outdoors each year.  I can imagine the same has happened to your fleece sitting in the sun for a summer.

  • I have no idea if it was marketed for outdoor use. The next roll will be somewhere cool in the summer

Where did you keep it in the summer months?

In the shed is probably the reason....

I keep in a roll in the shed through the summer. I use it to fleece dahlia pots throught he winter. I lend it out locally too through our garden group and it seems to hold up really well.
