Free Tree

Popped in our Local family run Nursery here in Abergavenny to buy a bag of Spring bulbs for our young 7yr old granddaughter who has got the bug about flowers/nature/bugs since moving back to the UK from Florida in January to plant in their garden up in Nottingham. Driving out on a sale trolley was this , Free as says on the card couldn't resist . We have  conifers, Piceas , and Leylandis of different varieties here in our steep, tiered garden . Got my secateurs ready, it's not pot bound so any of you fellow gardeners put a name to it please ?

    I have no idea what it is either but your post prompted me to say I was passing through Abergavenny yesterday en route to the Black Mountains. So I’m sort of local living in the hills above Tintern Abbey.  Happy Welsh gardening!

    Yes you got it Anthelas it's 'Thuja Orientalis ! Franky Boy. A bit of pruning done earlier just cut out some of the brown , it couldn't stay there as it was 'Free'. We are going to plant it around our pond tomorrow to give it a good chance, I'll let you know if it survives our wonderful weather here in Wales in the Spring. Welshwindyhills we were in Tintern my OH and I about 2 months ago we park, take a walk following the River Wye and back to 'The Anchor" for food, a very special place. Abergavenny is a 15min drive from my garden in SE Wales up on the side of The Valley , wonderfull scenery and friendly people. A garden for you to visit maybe next Spring is Nantybedd at Forest Coal Pit, Brecon Beacons, it was mentioned in the latest 'The Garden' RHS magazines this month ,  not your usual garden but ' A magical Garden, Sorry Coccinella its mine keep your eyes peeled you might find a bargain.
