Is my vine OK?

I was given a grape vine last Xmas. After planting in February it didn’t seem very happy. This year I had a little growth from around the graft to the rootstock. My question is whether its the graft that is growing or whether the graft has failed and I'm just getting growth from the rootstock. I've attached a picture of its current appearance. Any advice gratefully received

    It isn't obvious where the graft is in your photo. Could you try another shot from a lower angle and closer in so that we can see where the growth is coming from?

    I didn't know that vines were grafted!

    A few years ago, I grew one from seed.  I was planning to use the leaves for dolmadakia. 

    Well, the vine is doing beautifully, it produces wonderful leaves but I never managed to find the time for dolmadakia yet.  However, my daughter has a free supply of organic leaves!

    I should add that right now its leaves are turning russet and gold.  Decidedly autumnal.

    Yes a clearer photo would be better but personally I think you’re okay as the growth seems to be coming from the top of the graft if a little sideways.

    Clear out the grass and weeds from around the base so you’ve got 50cm of space around the base, hopefully the soil drains well and you should be good.

    Did you get any flowers or grapes this year?

    When we moved here, years ago, there was a huge old vine in the sunniest part of the garden.  It produced many leaves but no grapes.  OH said, "obviously, someone grew it from seed".  Was that you? 🤣
