Gnats

I don’t know if you can see them too well in this picture but I was outside sweeping the decking when all of a sudden I caught a glimpse of thousands of them hovering over my lawn glistening in the sunlight! Are these an issue and how do I get rid of them?

  • They will only be about for a short time - you can't eradicate every insect - all part of our natural life :)
  • Clouds of gnats hovering above the damp ground are a feature of autumn and mild winter days. Good for the birds and bats and one of nature’s mini spectacles. If they were birds we’d be flocking to watch them.  Nothing to worry about. 😊

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

To be honest they did look nice glistening in the sunlight, I just didn’t know if it was an issue with my lawn that need rectifying but your comments have reassured me 👍 I went from having a concrete garden of to a big lawn so still learning lol.
  • Ive had them bothering me this week whilst planting bulbs ... and some of them do bite exposed skin ☹️
