God I hate modern cars. My wife's car went in for a service and came back with the 'bonnet open' warning light on, I suspect the bonnet was slammed too hard and broke something. I say warning light but it's actually a detailed digital picture of the car with a red bonnet. I cleaned the catch and everything but it won't go out so probably needs a new switch. The problem is the car decides that if the bonnet is open then you can't use the windscreen wipers unless the car is moving at at least 10mph. It also decides that telling you the bonnet is open is more important than any of the other displays on the digital bit of the dash, and this includes things like speed and well basically a ton of stuff that is more important than the bonnet light. I assume if I just cut one wire the light will go out but knowing this car it will disable the brakes or something equally ridiculous. :|

No you are right @raisingirl, he owns Necker, we were not allowed to go there.

Take the car back to where it was serviced.  They shouldn't have returned it with active warning displays - particularly ones they caused.

I've no doubt that they'd charge me to fix their mistake. It's hard to prove they did anything sadly. The switch isn't expensive and it looks simple to replace but I'm just more annoyed about how the car deals with the fault.

Very annoyed at being made to feel like a second class citizen because I don’t drive! I am unwell, probably the”worst cold ever” but as a precaution I decided to get a PCR test to protect my colleagues and the public I work with. Bearing in mind I live in a busy suburban area not the middle of the countryside. A walk in test was 7 miles away, I can’t take public transport for obvious reasons, all local test centre are drive through only. I therefore ordered a test to be delivered, it has to be placed in a priority postbox and the nearest one is a30 min walk away, I can barely stagger to the loo! I have had to arrange for a courier!
I don’t get sick pay so although I personally am too ill to go to work anyway imagine how all this delay would affect me if I needed a negative result to return to work and was otherwise well.
No wonder so many people just don’t bother!

I think I have the same cold as you @debs64, have been ill for 2 weeks and have spent most of that time in bed, just getting up for the odd half hour.

  • Family, friends, neighbours? I know my neighbours would do it for me if they could if my OH was away … or I’d call a cab.

… but I know that when we’re feeling ill we don’t always think of these things…

But you don't want to be going in a cab until the test result has come back negative. It might just be a cold, or it might not and anyway you wouldn't want to spread it around. Surely it should be possible to arrange free pickup as well as delivery of the test for people who're too unwell to go out.
