Cordyline

Hi Can anyone offer any advice please, I planted a cordyline around 2 years ago and it has grown rather quickly and become very large, too large for my garden now its way past my downstairs windows.  Do you know if I would be able to dig it up successfully without damage and give it away?

  • I had to do this once (with a bit of help) when I moved house.  Once it was out of the ground, I put the roots in a bag with a bit of water then simply replanted it along with a good watering.  It worked!

It is possible to dig them out but you will probably need to go down a fair old depth and might need a mattock to help lever it out. I think l'm right in saying that if you leave any of the root behind for any reason, they do tend to reshoot.
