Not one London council in the top 45 of the league table. Unsurprisingly. Eight of the lowest are in London. Areas with many blocks of flats perform pretty miserably; just one reason. Rural areas do better. "Contamination" levels of the bins are v high.
Our council has bi-weekly general waste collection and weekly for food, recycling and green waste. It seems to work pretty well but we pay for green waste collection now and the uptake is very low.
I've never used the food waste facility. From me - around one 20 litre bag of recycling and one the same for general waste a week - currently mostly of flexible plastics. Our local waste processing plant uses incineration not landfill. They use the heat to directly warm surrounding homes via pipe network, and power 127,000, but it's all locally controversial: too much burning.
